Allergy Testing
Allergy testing is not a guaranteed solution but an important first step in determining whether a cat may be suitable for someone with allergies. Each person’s allergic reactions are unique, and we aim to make the testing process as comfortable as possible.
We offer free allergy testing when you visit us at our location. The testing process takes about an hour, during which we expose you to one cat at a time, allowing us to monitor your response to the fur and dander in a controlled environment. This method gives us a better understanding of your tolerance level, and it helps ensure that you're comfortable around a particular cat.
The Process:
We introduce one cat at a time, allowing you to experience your reactions gradually rather than overwhelming you with multiple cats at once.
If a particular cat is allergy-friendly for you, we’ll move on to another. This step-by-step approach ensures you have the time to evaluate your response without feeling rushed.
It’s important to note that allergic reactions vary greatly. Some people react immediately, while others might not show signs until hours later, especially if the allergens build up over time.
Types of Allergic Reactions:
Some people may develop hives through direct contact, while others experience sneezing, congestion, or asthma-like symptoms. We take all these factors into account during testing.
What to Bring:
Please bring along any allergy medications or inhalers that you might need during the visit.
We also recommend wearing durable, snag-proof clothing like jeans and t-shirts, as the cats have claws, and items like sweaters may snag.
This testing is offered to ensure that both you and the kitten are a good fit allergy-wise before moving forward. If the results are positive, we can discuss further steps for holding a kitten. If not, you will have a better understanding of your compatibility with the breed.
